Moving Step Families Forward

Brenda Hooper received her mediation training from the Justice Institute of British Columbia, Canada. In 1998 she was asked to become a panel member for the Insurance Dispute Resolution Services of British Columbia where she mediated insurance settlement claims that were being disputed. Although she initially mediated commercial disputes, Brenda’s passion was to work with families. She went back to the Justice Institute to continue her family mediation training and career and in 2005 began mediating with the Family Mediation Project and is currently an Advanced Mediator helping couples who are separating or going through a Divorce.

As a Step Daughter and a Step Mother, Brenda recognized very early the uniqueness of Step Families and the difficulties involved in trying to combine two families. With this in mind, she received her Coaching Certification from the Step Family Foundation. By combining Family Mediation and Step Family Coaching it has been a natural fit and works wonderfully to help Step Families understand their uniqueness, mediate related issues and coach them to become a strong support system for one another.
