Brenda Hooper formed Step By Step Mediation Services when she saw the need for Family Mediation to extend beyond couples who were going through a Separation or Divorce.
Brenda received the majority of her training in family mediation at the Justice Institute of British Columbia. She then did her practicum at the Family Mediation Practicum Project where she honed her skills as a Family Relations Mediator and then as a Comprehensive Family Mediator.
Brenda is Nationally Certified with Family Mediation Canada as a Comprehensive Family Mediator (CFM)
As a Family Mediator, Brenda has works with many couples to reach agreements regarding Parenting Plans and the division of their assets and debts. Many of these mediated divorces were a failed attempt at a 2nd or 3rd marriage.
It became disheartening to see the marriages were failing because that meant that not only the adults but also the children were experiencing yet another loss of family and upheaval in their lives.
Brenda saw this pattern of marriages dissolving and recognized that Step Families were having problems and really needed help. Her endeavors took her to New York where she trained with Jeanette Lofas to learn all she could about the uniqueness of Step/Blended Families. Brenda's training enabled her to become a Masters Certified Step Family Coach through the Step Family Foundation of America and over 30 years of research in Step Families and Family Development has been provided in this training in order for the help that Step/Blended families are seeking is available throughout North America.
It is such a gratifying experience when I work with couples going through a divorce reach mutually satisfying agreements and leave the mediation feeling relieved knowing that they have their child's best interest looked after.
As one client expressed " A huge rock has been lifted off my shoulders because of this mediation - I feel I can now breath".
I just knew in my heart that if mediation was so successful for divorcing/separating couples - it too could be a powerful tool for step/blended families who really want to stay together but need help to navigate through the family conflicts.
And Brenda's hunch was correct....
